Considering becoming a counselor? It can be a good idea to familiarize yourself with licensing regulations early on in the process. In Nevada, there are several agencies that license master’s level counselors. The Nevada State Board of Examiners for Marriage and Family Therapists and Professional Counselors licenses Clinical Professional Counselors (or LCPCs). The Department of Education licenses school counselors.
The Nevada Board of Examiners for Alcohol, Drug & Gambling Counselors licenses and certifies addictions counselors at several levels.

You can become a counseling intern through the Nevada Board of Examiners for Alcohol, Drug & Gambling Counselors if you are at least 21 and are enrolled as a student in an acceptable program. If you know this is your calling, you will probably opt for a substance abuse counseling program or a professional counseling program with additional coursework in addictions. If your program includes 12 semester hours of addictions coursework, you will have less supervised work experience required later to get your license. You will accrue at least 3,000 hours of counseling experience.
